Isabel Samuel holds up a softball lit with RGBW LED tape. As a part of her job as the Staff Electrician at North Shore Music Theatre (NSMT), she built this glowing softball to be the glowing component in Tinkerbell’s house for NSMT’s production of Peter Pan. Due to its whimsical and unique nature, this light up softball is her favorite practical construction project that she has worked on to date. Photo taken by Katie Whittemore.

About

I am a lighting designer, and I am driven by a love for teaching and learning.  My next step on my journey towards teaching is through my MFA candidacy at Illinois State University.  One of my favorite aspects of attending school is that I can participate in creating new work, which I am passionate about.  In the past few years, I worked as a follow spot operator, then staff electrician, and then Assistant Lighting Supervisor at North Shore Music Theatre. While my first theatrical passion is lighting design, I have come to discover that I also love to program, build practical props and scenery, and paint.  I am always striving to elevate diverse and minority voices through my art.  As a white cisgender woman, I want to use my privilege to dismantle white supremacy in American theatre and American society.  I am always learning how to be a better ally, and I want to share these lessons with the world.
